Chiptuning has gotten a bad name because of cheap, low quality ‘chiptuning products’. They were called “powerbox”, but those boxes didn’t do what we now can do with custom-chiptuning or the ATM-Chiptuning Module. The older powerboxes only adjusted 1 or 2 values, by intercepting those in between of the engine and your cars engine-management-unit (ECU).
Newer generation ECU’s, boardcomputers’ contain a memorychip that is impossible or hard to read/write with the OBD communication-line. Sometimes there isn’t even any external memory and only an internal memory of the ECU is being used. On these types of ECU’s there is a BDM-port (Backround Debugging Mode). Through this BDM-port, ATM is able to read

Chiptuning has gotten a bad name because of cheap, low quality ‘chiptuning products’. Newer generation ECU’s, boardcomputers’ contain a memorychip that is impossible or hard to read/write with the OBD communication-line. Sometimes there isn’t even any external memory and only an internal memory of the ECU is being used. On these types of ECU’s there is a BDM-port (Backround Debugging Mode).
Through this BDM-port, ATM is able to read the original software. Since the BDM-port is located on the motherboard of the ECU, we carefully take out your cars ECU and after performing the optimization we carefully put it back into place. Below you find a basic schedule how the process of an engine-management-optimization at ATM is performed.
Before we can start optimizing your software, we first need to get that software out of the heart of your engine, the ECU (Electonic Control Unit). There are several ways to get into your ECU to retrieve the necessary data; OBD-chiptuning, BDM-chiptuning and the somewhat older ‘chiptuning’.

Any software we retrieve from your car is put in our database, as a back-up. Whenever we, for any reason would like to consult that software we can. After the back-up has been made, our programmers start optimizing the software of your vehicle. During this process the software parameters are better adapted.

The ATM-Chiptuning module is a specially developed, small, external computer which is placed in between the original wiringloom of your car and the Control Unit (ECU) of your car. This computer adjust the data sent to and from the ECU in a very specific, safe way. Your car will perform much better. Horsepower and torque is increased drastically. The vehicle reacts more lively when you touch your accelerator.
Be aware that our module is not a universal powerbox! A power box ‘tricks’ the computer of your car in a way that false data is send to your ECU. Our power box is a one of a kind to create harmony within your engine.
The results of an ATM-Chiptuning module is equal to that of our regular used chiptuning, the module adjusts the incoming data in a safe, reliable way. The ATM-Chiptuning module is usually placed in the enginebay.
Because the ATM-Chiptuning module also adjusts the turbopressure, the results are very close to our OBD chiptuning. After the placement of the ATM-Chiptuning module you can instantly enjoy the better torque curve wich starts much earlier and peaks at higher revolutions.
Because of the adjustment of the turbopressure the power increase is significantly higher then the powerbox. Powerboxes promise a lot of efficiency but in reality they never get close to what they promised.
Because of the increased amount of torque you can shift much earlier and safe upto + 10% in fuel.

During chiptuning the software parameters from your engine-management system is optimized. To be able to do this, we first need to read the original software from your cars’ Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The software in your cars’ ECU can be read in three different ways.
Originally chiptuning meant that the eprom(chip) was removed from the ECU’s motherboard. This was done by desoldering the chip from the motherboard and the data on the chip is read. The programmer would then rewrite the software, place it on the chip and solder it back on the motherboard. This method is nowadays mostly used for older model cars. Newer cars (from 2000) contain newer generations of ECU which can be modified by using the OBD-port. The next paragraphs describe the currently used, more modern options of rewriting your cars’ ECU.

Every car that leaves the factory is equipped with a standard softwareversion. These settings in most cases lay far within the maximum potential of the used engine. This non-used area gives ATM-Chiptuning the possibilities to adjust the data of the corresponding Engine Control Unit. This is what we call optimizing or chiptuning/remapping.
The optimized adjustments result in a higher amount of horsepower and torque. When your engine is equipped with a turbocharger this will result in an increase performance anywhere from 20% till 40% in torque (nm) and power (kw). When you have a naturally aspired engine, the optimizing of your engine-management will gain about 10% more power. Another aspect that is highly appreciated is the fact that the engine becomes a lot more lifely and reacts quicker on the accelerator.
